VERY EXCITING NEWS! Some of you might remember Pilotpriest’s “My Adidas” rework from late 2007. In fact, it was featured here on dsquared before being swiftly removed as my partner and I decided to sign Pilotpriest to Calamity Jane Recordings. Since then people have emailed, called and asked in person for the tune (we had no idea how popular it would become) but we were steadfast. We’ve held on to it, had Pilotpriest give it a little reworking and now, we are ready to share it with you all! This is, of course, in preparation for his debut single “Zipper” which will be out on September 29th with remixes from Breakdown. Enjoy!

Keeping it in the 80s, Prepmode has a bmore remix of…wait for it…”Conga” by Miami Sound Machine. It’s pretty straightforward – a bit of a bmore base to it, those horns we all know and love, the vocals (stuttered a bit in some sections)…nothing over the top or unexpected, but what is there is done well. I would love to throw this into a set for a hot second and let people have their fun cheese-out retro moment on the dance floor.

Jumping ahead a few years, Mobin Master takes on “Rhythm is a Dancer” by Snap! and the result is drum-laden and delicious. It’s sweet and simple – the percussion and programming are not overworked, done to support the vocal which of course, is absolutely key here. Overall I love the song – my only gripe (which isn’t even a gripe really), is that the buildups lead me to believe that the song will get a punch of hard synths at some point. Take a listen around 2:40 to see what I mean. Then again, I have a penchant for hard, dirty synths so I’m biased. Completely.

Ok now back into modern times. Yes, we have the 5,459,102nd remix of Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling.” I’m posting this one though by Dan Sena because I like that he actually steered away from using the melodic synths/hooks that are in the original (and of course, everyone uses). It has an identity of its own and is quite fun. It’s about a minute too long for my taste, especially given that the vocals aren’t consistent, but nothing a couple cue points in Serato can’t fix.

This remix of Lady Sovereign’s “Jigsaw” by Taku only came out in Japan and its been passed along for our blogging pleasure. Very little of the actual “Jigsaw” vocals make it in (save a couple lines at 2:30 and again later on), rendering it unrecognizable unless you know the original. Heck, even if you know the original you would be hard pressed to recognize it here (surprising the remix was authorized as is). Of course, this doesn’t mean it’s a bad track, but probably doesn’t fulfill duties as a proper remix. Looking at it purely as a standalone, the audio landscape here is lush, with disco-esque loopiness in the background beefed up by layers of synths that give it a lighthearted feel despite the apparent intensity.

The Deficient, who has been featured here before, is back with a “Pon Di Floor” remix. He does a lot with very little addition, showcasing creative editing with that synth and adding some drums underneath that safely sit in the back without interfering with what the tune is supposed to be about. Nice synth stabs about halfway through that add a surprising touch without going overboard.

Its been a minute since Barletta has been on here and oh, how I’ve missed him. This edit of Sta’s “Stalactites” mixes more organic sounding synth lines with crunchier counterparts, making a nice little number that stands on its own sans vocals. I love the mini breakdown around 4 minutes – simple but extremely effective. Overall the tune is done well, unpretentious, and actually quite pretty.

Saving the evil for last. Pance Party always loves to make things as dark as they can. Usually I’m a huge Felix Cartal fan, but in the case of “Skeleton,” it seems like all the remixes outshine the original. Such is the case here IMO with Pance Party’s in your face synths that mimic the original melody. Listen yourself actually, let me know what you think. Here is the original on Youtube.
