I’ve been stuck inside the past two days, working my ass off and sitting in front of this damn computer. It’s such a love/hate thing. I love that I’m getting work done, I hate that I’m not outside. I hate that it’s cold out, but I want to not be indoors the whole day. Ah, the grass is always greener. I guess the one thing about getting stuck indoors is that I have the opportunity to get caught up on all the lovely tunes everyone has been sending me!

Dr. Girlfriend, a duo from Phoenix, is a newly formed group that has sent over some fun remixes. The two are admittedly new to production, and while I could lend a bit of critique to these remixes, overall I am quite impressed that they were done by people with little to no experience. While I love the thick mainlines of the Mandy Kane remix, I’m drawn mostly to their take on Mickey Avalon – a poppier production heavy on guitars and vocals that just screams party tune. Both tunes wind up sounding slightly flat and missing bass (which I suspect is a result of the mastering since the sounds themselves are fitting and clean), but it’s nothing that can’t be fixed by a little live inventiveness with the mixer.

I have a total crush on Death To The Throne. I play out every single one of his remixes…I think I played two at Tuesday night’s Blog Wars at Debonair Social Club. My only complaint here is that the snare doesn’t sound like a right fit for the tune and sounds noisy in the mix. Beyond that, how thankful am I to get a hard mix of my favorite Lykke Li tune! The synths play perfectly off the little songstress and manages to still sound incredibly melodic despite the fact that it is a tough as nails remix.

DJ Wool has a new EP coming out and Sharkslayer provides my favorite remix on the whole darn thing. Light on vocals and heavy on spacey stabs and percussion rolls, this is one tracky remix perfect for late night once you already have everyone on the floor in a tizzy.

I have to say, I really don’t like the new Lady Sovereign tune “I Got You Dancing.” I wanted to like it, I really did…but I just can’t listen to it. Then along comes a couple of DJs who make it listenable for me. Achilles & Guile manage to make the tune into a fun interpretation that I can even jam to. Again, I have a bit of an issue with the mastering here – it sounds a little muffled and light on the hi end range, but the arrangement is great. I love the breakdown that transitions from dry vox into affected with a roll that then drops into the meat of the tune.
