Mike Gillenwater is one of my good friends who lives just over the border in Indiana. He has a background more in disco-centered house which is probably a result of his formal music training background. He plays guitar for his tracks, writes the keys, everything - he’s pretty much the man. Aside from producing, Mike is also very involved in the Nine Records camp, a label that has not only housed his debut artist album, but releases from artists like Granite & Phunk, Harrison Crump and Johnny Fiasco. So when MIke wanted to collaborate on a tune together, I jumped on the chance and spent a couple days down in Indy working in his studio.

The result of our work together is a bit of a mash of our two styles. While I came to the table with a more classic electro sound, Mike loves swing, switch-ups and has been experimenting with pulling back, instead of adding more. The track is called “The Sound Of Disco” and I hope you have as much fun listening, passing it around and DJing it as we did making it. “The sound…of disco…Berlin…San Francisco…the club…the heat…p-p-play that beat.”

Thanks to Keem All Hippies, White Folks Get Crunk, Hot Biscuits, So Indie It Hurts and anyone else I missed for posting and supporting the tune.

The Rocky Theme has another remix out, this time courtesy of Miscellaneous Chocolate from Seattle. The kitsch is not as integrated as it is in the well-circulated “Rocky Raver” by Herve…but is centered towards the beginning of the song. This is intentional on MC’s part, as the tune is meant to be more of a set opener to get the crowd riled up. I can’t wait to play this out and test the theory - the tune drops heavy after about thirty seconds in and doesn’t let up in its brief, but packed three and a half minutes.

Zombie Zombie first sent us his remix of Kesha a couple weeks ago, and now he’s back with another remix, this time of LA-based band The Vacation. The original is called “I Can’t Dance” and the remix is what we’re coming to expect from Zombie Zombie - straightforward, synth-centered and dance floor friendly mixes that keep the original song and lyrics consciously in mind. If you like the remix, I highly suggest you check out the Myspace page for The Vacation - several of their songs are available for free download via their Myspace player…suh-weet!

Dada Life June Mix Posted by admin

Swedish house/electronica band Dada Life (comprised of Olle Corneer and Stephan Englblom) have been some of my favorite artists for years, and I must say I got a little starstruck when I got an email from them this morning with their new June promotional mix. It’s amazing - along what I would play during a set…so maybe I’m biased, but what the hell. The mix also includes lots of exclusives from the duo, giving it a sweet personal touch. As they say themselves, “We take nice tunes and make them even better.” Amen.

New Facteur! Posted by admin

We first posted French artist Facteur when we got wind of his “Dr. Rhythm” remix and now the man is back again with two fresh remixes. Other people have been taking notice of his talents as well, as proven by his recent signing on Dubmood’s Data Airlines label and an upcoming EP with SexySynth Records. Both tracks below are non-stop beaters with only slight breaks to allow you to catch your breath. Normally tunes along these lines don’t appeal to me as they verge on just being noisy, but Facteur manages to layer his synthwork brilliantly to add additional rhythms and patterns.

Oh how happy am I - friend Kill The Noise has a new remix out, in correspondence with his School’s Out Forever tour with buddy Treasure Fingers. Nadastrom’s remix of Estelle’s “American Boy” was brilliant, and KTN’s interpretation is as well, though in a different way. A little more lighthearted, this version has trailing synths, a poppy breakdown, nice sidechaining action, thumpy kickdrums…the list of why this is great could go on and on. I love that Kill The Noise has the capacity to create an array of sounds, from harder, more minimal tunes to solid melodic pieces like this remix. Always a winner from this one.

If you’re not aware of the tour the duo is currently on, check the flyer below…you might be able to catch one of the last few stops.

Ok, I really dig the tune posted below, but frankly, it irks me when I get sent a track with no background information about the artist and there’s nothing about them on their MySpace. I want to know who these people are dammit! This newest submission is by a UK group called OrtzRoka. They’re unsigned. That’s all the info I was given - UK, and unsigned…I wish I could say more. But anyway, on to the track, “Planets,” which has a great dream-like quality to it while retaining dance floor integrity. Snippets of old-school sneak their way in (omg, rave sirens?) and make this a tune that could work at peak hour, provided that pitch control strip is worked!

The video for the song is quite mesmerizing, and directed by Dan Lowe, a nominee for Best New Director at the 2007 CAD Music Video Awards.

I’m sure you’re all aware of the Buffetlibre project Rewind, where artists cover classic 80s tunes (if you’re not familiar, check it out here). The latest available for download is the Purple Crush cover of Madonna’s “Physical Attraction.” It’s a perfect blend of vintage Madonna mixed with vocal editing, snippets of bmore and of course, trademark Purple Crush sounds. I absolutely love that it’s still recognizable and at the same time adds a completely different dimension to the song.

On a separate but related note, I know you guys are spoiled with the 320 files I give you on here, but for this one post, you’ll have to live with a 256kbps song. The horror! The original file that was sent out was only 128 and I requested something a little beefier that was more suitable for download. The 256 was the highest bitrate they had to offer. You see how I take care of you?

UPDATE: Got the 320kbps file! The download link below is updated with the new file.

This popped up in my inbox this morning and who knew that dirty, gritty electro would be just the thing to listen to over my morning coffee. Some of you might remember that the Cryptonites are holding a remix contest for their tune “Can’t Give You Up” (still going on by the way) and I have a strong feeling this remix will be selected as one of the winners.

The remixer behind this monster is Germany’s Sawitzki, who seems to be a puzzling personality. Here’s what I can gather - he goes by J-Bazz for hip hop, but uses Marcel Sawitzki (or Savin…as also listed on his Myspace) as his electro alter-ego. No matter the name, the remix is a beauty, jå?
