I went to go see Moby DJ last night at Smartbar. I had never seen him DJ, only perform live at the Area One show that happened years ago here in Illinois, and I guess I had expected to hear something more representative of his new album (how beautiful is his new song “Alice”?) It wasn’t exactly my cup of tea overall, but he did play a couple choice tunes, including a release from Potty Mouth Records, the imprint of Smartbar’s music director, James Amato. I also have to give him credit for having and inordinate amount of energy. He kept smiling at me too…which I didn’t notice but my boyfriend picked up on. One great thing came out of the night - I ran into Bill Basil, one half of the House Moguls, that duo that created a little remix you might have heard of - their version of Daft Punk’s One More Time. We chatted for a while as the dance floor raved it up (literally - I saw glowsticks), and then today he emailed me a new boot they’ve been working on. They also have a new EP coming out with some more juicy sample-based tunes, so check out their MySpace for info on that. Let’s all say “thanks House Moguls” together now!
