The master of fidget is at it again with “Let’s Go To Work,” the newest release on his label Crux Records. I usually have a problem with some aspect of Crux’s releases, but this entire lineup is pretty solid. Bonus, aside from the great remixes featured here, there’s also an acapella for you - with a reason. Along with this release, Crux is hosting a remix competition - the top four remixes will be released as CRUX10. To submit entries, email contest@weaponmedia.com. Enjoy and get inspired.

I’m continuously frustrated by the lack of music quality I see on blogs. I’m not just talking about the actual fidelity (a lower bitrate is presumed with mp3s you download from blogs), but the truckloads of mediocre crap produced by people who lack experience, and then usually, the ear to judge if something is good or not. Out of the hundreds of songs I download every Monday (my music day), I usually keep 5-7 songs. The list of how most of these songs suck is miles long. The vocals are too low, the kicks are over compressed, the levels are off, there’s no hook, the synths are out of tune with the bassline, etc. etc. *sigh* Enough bitching, I could go on for quite some time about this. Anyway, I thought I would post some examples of great tunes floating around out there - these are the few I kept today from all my downloads. Kudos to Palms Out Sounds, Panda Toes and Electrorash. Oh yeah, and as if all my house/electro postings aren’t a big enough hint, this should also give everyone a clear idea of what mizz Dani Deahl enjoys. Please stop sending me hip hop (see below post). Cheers!

Lately I’ve been chatting with one of my editors at URB about house vs. hip hop. I will say right now I’m not a fan of hip hop, never have been, probably never will. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate all hip hop, but the few items I dig are few and far between. On the flipside, my editor feels the same way about house, saying that to him, it all sounds the same. After a pause on my part, he came back with, “Oh, did I offend you, yeah?” Touche. So I bet him that I could compile a list of ten house tunes that would make him change his mind and he bet me he could create a similar list for hip hop to give to me. I’m curious to hear what tunes you all think should be on the list. I would be ashamed to give him a list compiled only of classics, although a few probably have to be included.

Leave all nominations in the comments with an explanation of why they need to be on there :)

The busiest Wednesday in Chicago is upon us! Elite Chicago’s Wednesdays at Ruby get 400+ every week - if you’re in Chicago come on out to hear the best electro jams - it’s free all night if you say “Dani” at the door!

HeavyFeet is the duo of “Mike & James, plus the occasional lyric spouter” according to their Myspace. I’ve been jocking everything these boys do as of late, and I think it’s only a matter of time before they start to travel outside of the Manchester area. They’re quite cheeky on their page, not really saying much about their background, only noting that “If you want James to come and play some records for you; he does Weddings, Bar Mitzvahs and Hen Nights mainly but occasionally he makes exceptions and plays in clubs all over the land. To enquire about a HeavyFeet remix, please email us directly. We’ll happily ruin your music with ridiculous basslines and laser noises for you. No problemo.”

I’ve known some Manchester guys and had a few of them stay with me a couple years ago when I brought over a friend to DJ. Basically the only thing they showed interest in doing was going to a pub, drinking pints and watching football. Oh yeah, and they loved Hooters. Actually, they thought Hooters was just an urban legend and were thrilled to find out they could go to one. Swear to god.

Here are a couple HeavyFeet tunes, along with one killer remix and a brand new mix from the duo.

The Glass have been quite busy lately with their label Plant Music. After slowly releasing several tunes relatively under the radar with retailers like Beatport they then slammed everyone with PR about their “Remixes & Rarities” album. To say the album has done well would be an understatement. 13,000 downloads, a Discobelle contest and a major European tour later, The Glass is proving they are one hot band to watch out for. It’s about time too, these guys have been around for years. Let’s toast to their success with a megamix done by Arveene and Misk compiling all of “Remixes & Rarities” into one indie dance party with a punch.
