The best way to start your weekend off right? New music! And be prepared because this is going to be one helluva post. Seriously, crack your knuckles, go do some stretches – whatever you gotta do. In the meantime, here’s some news – we’ve scheduled the release party for the “Poppin’ Bottles” video! If you’re in the Chicago area or will be on August 22nd (a Saturday) we will be hosting the event at NV Penthouse lounge. If you come, not only will you be the first to see the video, but you’ll also get a free copy of Clubline Magazine! I’m the feature article in the magazine for the month of August so they were nice enough to donate issues for everyone who comes through. RSVP to avoid cover HERE.

While remixes have always been the norm for groups to get their names out, it seems that the unexpected remix is gaining ground (I’ve gotten tracks lately that remix everything from 70s/80s group Zebra to Slayer). This new remix from group (I’m guessing?) called HOT DAMN puts an electro touch on the Beatnuts’ classic jam, “Watch Out Now.” I say “guess” in regards to HOT DAMN because the email sent out was rather cryptic, though it did make me laugh. Sample line, “With the right elements in place, HOT DAMN creates electro that makes artists say things like, “hey bro, not now, I’m working.” We know they were so stunned they couldn’t respond, and HOT DAMN is ok with that.”

This Thomas R Remix of “In Heaven” sounds like if DJ Antoine, Klaas and DJ Kue had an electro baby. It’s got all the elements you would need in a big room electro remix – catchy synth mainline, lots of wind noise and assloads of drum rolls. It’s not the most original remix ever, but that doesn’t mean it’s not good – in fact, it’s quite good.

Risk One sent me a bunch of party jams via Myspace – songs that are guilty pleasures and he adds a little touch so that I can slip them in the set for a minute. The mash of Pitbull and Sidney Samson works quite well (though the vocals are a touch hot), Rye Rye’s “Bang” goes peak hour with airhorns and massively pounding kicks and his version of “Patron Tequila” amps up the energy a few notches with nice and loud drum patterns. I can’t wait to hear more from Risk One in the future – great gray market mixes.

Ah yet another remix of “Funk Nasty.” I love that original track and this remix by Hidden Cat takes it in yet another new direction. It actually doesn’t utilize the trademark vocal much, heading straight into a synth that wobbles and doesn’t let up, even on the breaks. I can just see Hidden Cat sitting there with the LFO open saying, “take that bitches!” The fact that there isn’t much movement in the track beyond that might normally irk me, but there is still a sense of journey here and it has a mesmerizing quality to it (man, especially when it opens up around 3:00).

One of the first tracks DJ Manaia made was a mash up between Baobinga & I.D.’s “Jump Up Get Hype” instrumental with the acapella from Crime Mob’s “Knuck If You Buck.” Now Baobinga has edited that mash up, speeding up the tune and adding his own touch on the vocal arrangement. The result is straight fire – an absolute party starter if I’ve heard any.

I think it’s well known we love Barletta around these parts. I think I could just blindly post his tracks without listening – they’re that good. This take on Golden Gloves’ “Casablanca” is a touch of glitch, a touch of play with the attack/decay/release and a bit of stripping down, all without losing that intense edge Barletta is known for. I like that this feels a little more restrained than his norm – but still sounds massive (holy cow the build in that first breakdown…).

Half dubstep, half evil electro, Darkartois continues on his mission to make us slaves to the wobble with this remix of Brainbug. “Nightmare,” actually mimics its name, but don’t let that scare you away. Filled with dark undertones and switches between a more traditional 4/4 and straight up dubstep breakdowns, he finds a nice balance that seems to be working well for other artists at the moment, like Hostage. I’m a dubstep fan, and tracks like these make it so I can integrate those influences into my sets easily.

It’s been a minute since I’ve posted anything from OH SNAP!! but when he sends something – you know it’s quality. “Freaky Freaky” has an incredibly bouncy feel to it and the vocals are minimal (comparatively) but catchy. With “let’s get freaky freaky” as the hook, how can you not sing along? I could see this popping in more mainstream arenas as well – something to try out over the weekend? If anyone does – let me know how it does.

Ok all you La Roux freaks, I finally have a remix for you – iamxl‘s take on “Bulletproof.” Just as an fyi, I still have a love/hate relationship with La Roux. iamxl keeps the frenetic arcade-esque sound of the original but adds a bit of beef to it (though I don’t know how I feel about the gunfire after every time the word “bulletproof” is uttered). Overall though an edit that doesn’t stray very far from the original.
