Wow, I’ve been getting emails and IMs voicing disappointment because I haven’t been updating as frequently as I have in the past. I promise I’ll try to be better about it! Between putting together the launch party for my label (shhh!), the new track I just signed to a fantastic label (double shhh!) and all the promo for The Glamour’s release on Calamity Jane Recordings, time has been well, scarce. But I hear ya, and I promise I’ll be better ![]()
If you guys haven’t found my new mix on blogs like Hot Biscuits yet, I suggest you download it, if only for the intro. The title of the mix, “Puppy Love,” is a reference to the intro, which is a f***ing fantastic phone message. I was playing in Milwaukee for Asher of The Glamour at MOCT when one of Asher’s friends left a hilariously drunk and dirty message on his cell. ‘Nuff said.

And yes, there are individual tunes for download. This first one is a 256kbps file, but I enjoyed it so I let it slide! This remix of Bitter Persona’s “Familiar” is done by West coast’s Von Ukuf. If you haven’t heard of him and like big room electro, check him out on Beatport – he has a fair amount of tracks there, and according to his profile, also has about a dozen more releases in the works. This particular remix starts off with a light vox only to suddenly drop into an insanely hard-hitting synth. While straightforward in production, this is also the kind of track that would be perfect to drop when the crowd is already riled up.

Thrills has a new remix for all of you (and a new remix of Alex Zelenka for purchase on Beatport). This take of Claire Hux’s “Holy Ghost In The Club” is straight fun, from the horns to the stuttered vocals to the warbling bass. I personally wish the kick and snare were more present, but maybe that’s just me. Enjoy!

Yes, there are a slew of remixes popping up for Grum’s “Whoa!” but this particular one by Young P 3018 struck me as particularly nice. Keeping the original rhythm, he instead changed up other elements, such as the kick and popped in an 80s synth. The result is quite nice – powerful without sounding extremely hard.

neOn is baaaack with a remix of Heads We Dance’s “The Human Touch.” Here’s a great little story about collaboration and how these guys came to work with each other – CJ Allen of neOn saw one of their tunes on a Heads We Dance mixtape, thanked them for it and as a result, got asked to remix “The Human Touch.” Awww. I’m really getting into these guys’ productions and this remix is no exception. It goes from being bright and synthy to getting a bit more evil about halfway through, all without losing the integrity of the structure. Towards the end, it goes back to some of the original patterns, providing a great payoff.
