Monster Squad, Don Diablo, The Toxic Avenger

Spring is in the air – we now have more sunlight and people are definitely starting to go out again That being said, if you’re in Chicago watch dsquared for ticket giveaways for some amazing events coming up and also watch for some new hot parties I’ll be doing at Social 25 (the monthly Monday I started last month) and Vlive. I’m also still working on that damn mix…time has been difficult since I’ve been helping some friends out with some projects, including the amazing people over at C3 and Mateo Magazine. It will come, and so will the video round table (testing new software today – the one I originally picked was not so hot).

I am in LOVE with Monster Squad, the side project from The American Dream Team (TADT). Consisting of Code-D of TADT alongside MCs Whiskey Pete, Andre Parnell and Jae Stylus, the songs meld electro, house and hip hop to make catchy, dirty tracks that I’m sure will make Monster Squad a big act for this year. Not only have they given us two original songs, “I Get High” and “Make Me Lose It”, we have a boot remix of Crookers & Black Noise’s “Business Man”.  “I Get High” is probably my favorite – utterly clean production, simple and catchy instrumental and vocal hooks….yum (love the ambling bassline and siren-esque noise that pops in and out).

I’ve been iffy on the material Don Diablo has been unleashing as of late but he also just sent over a remix of one of his songs that is gorgeous. Nightriders turn out a lush landscape of sidechaining and trickling synths that have a slight underwater sound. Affected vocals round out this beautiful mix.

Clockwork has made an electro remix of the Diplo produced track “That Tree” with Snoop Dogg and Kid CuDi. I really like the original as well but am happy to hear this remix I can slip into a more high energy set. The vocals are a touch too quiet for my taste (more noticable in the second half of the track where there are more synths competing for volume), but overall a successful mix. I’d actually like to hear this as a dub or instrumental as well.

Long overdue – this posting of The Toxic Avenger‘s “NU 1553″ for Buffetlibre’s PEACE project (man these guys turn out collaborative projects like…every day). PEACE is Buffetlibre’s new project with Amnesty International and features more than 150 brand new songs by artists from more than 50 countries/territories. PEACE will be available digitally worldwide on April 12, with buyers needing to make a minimum donation to Amnesty International through a specially-designed website. All donations will go towards Amnesty International’s campaigns on human rights. That being said, enjoy the below as a teaser, and definitely make a donation when the entire project is available. The Toxic Avenger turns it out with this short but sweet tune that has an atmospheric intro that finally drops midway through into a sea of dark-tinged synths in major chords that actually give it a bit of an uplifting feel.
