Back From Mexico…And Sunburned

So finally back from Mexico – definitely not Chicago that’s for sure. Stepping off the plane into 24 degree weather was not the best welcome home, especially on my poor sunburned face (joy). Didn’t get much time to wallow though as it was straight to Liar’s Club for Dope! which turned out to be a great event. Many thanks to the guys over at Custom Vibes for booking me and throwing a great show :-) Hope to have some pictures up soon. I have a couple tunes to share with you guys this weekend and then hopefully some bigger posts at the beginning of this coming week! Got a ton of catching up to do over the next couple of days so this should be brief…

Algeronics has been sending me tracks as of late and always seems to pick nice, surprising tunes to remix. The two that caught my attention were his remixes of Aphex Twin’s “Windowlicker” and Ghostland Observatory’s “Vibrate.” There’s a great pulsing in his production, an ebb and flow that helps the pacing, even when there’s not much variation actually happening. I’d love a bit more breathing room in his tunes – they’re so tightly compressed the high highs and low lows are lost, but they are definitely good! My preference leans towards the “Windowlicker” remix myself :-)

neON! has another remix, but this one sounds so completely different from the sounds they’ve been producing as of late. CJ Allen of neON! has expressed a desire to expand his production boundaries and this certainly reflects that. Minimal, dark and with heavy techno influences, their take on “Santeria” turns the feel of the original on its head with deeper undertones. I love the subtle panned percussion in the background and the echoed samples that peek through about midway into the track.
