Yeah yeah, I know there’s still no ability to leave comments and there’s still no RSS link, but they’re coming. We are still operational though! In the meantime, please note that the URL for the blog is now http://www.danideahl.com/music and change your links, bookmarks and everything else
So tonight, taking into consideration all the construction we’ve had around here, I’m just reviewing a couple of tracks, and then offering the backlog I’ve been sitting on as downloadable .zip files. That will get us up to speed and then I can get back to my normal format ASAP.
By the way, feel free to check out the rest of the site! Everything from my photo galleries to mix downloads and my upcoming dates are all on the site. Speaking of dates, I’ve had some crazy ass trips since we last talked. From dancing on the bar in Guatemala at Stage Club to literally jumping on Donald Glaude in Milwaukee, there’s been some, um, memorable moments lately. If you want to catch me this week, I’ll be in Nashville at 12th & Porter for Y2K this Saturday! Not in Nashville? My newest mix will be airing on Ghetto House Radio this Friday – a syndicated radio show with over 500,000 weekly listeners.
Lastly – the second round of the Lolla Remix Throwdown is in full effect! Head on over to hear our semi-finalists’ remixes of Only Children, Felix da Housecat and Tiga!
Now that more mainstream radio stations have discovered “Bulletproof” I’m getting a second wave of remixes sent over. This one by Glasnost though caught my ear. My standby up until this point has been the Foamo remix, but that’s pretty hard and not one I can pull out at any gig. Glasnost’s version is a bit softer, with gentle washes of synths that give nu-disco undertones. It’s utterly smooth and lends a completely different feel to the vocals without making it seem forced.
La Roux: Bulletproof (Glasnost Remix)
Two remixes of M.I.A.’s “Steppin’ Up”! The first is by buddies Breakdown who have been upping the ante on their production lately. The elements are crisp and the subtleties with pans and stereo considerations bring the mix to another level. It’s a touch more stripped than normal Breakdown material, with punchy drums, a snappy kick and nice restrained programming that allows each element to shine. The second mix, by Clockwork, goes Dutch with piano chords on the breakdowns that eventually layer in towards the end. Also made well, but perhaps a bit more of a niche remix.
